Why Im Running The London Marathon
Earlier this year, my best mate Joel lost his dad Richard to cancer, who was battling cancer for many years and suffered with it in his stomach, liver, brain and lungs. Watching someone so close to me go through the pain of that loss opened my eyes to the devastating impact cancer has, not only on those diagnosed but also on the people who love them. I’m running this marathon in his memory, and for everyone who’s had to face this brutal disease. This run is my way of turning grief into action, of standing up for hope, and contributing to the fight against cancer so fewer families have to experience the kind of loss my best mate, and his family did. That’s why I am running for WCRF, to help fund the work that could stop other families from going through the same pain.
Watching Joel and his family go through that loss was heartbreaking. It hit all of us hard. No one should have to lose someone they love like that, and yet so many people do. This isn’t just about running a marathon. It’s about honouring Richard, standing by Joel, and doing something that feels meaningful in the face of loss. I’ll be carrying Richard’s name with me every mile of the way.
Beyond just running, I’m committed to making a real impact by raising funds for cancer research and support services. I plan to actively fundraise through social media campaigns, charity football matches, and workplace initiatives, sharing his story and encouraging people to contribute to a cause that touches so many lives. I know that with the right energy and dedication, I can rally support and make a meaningful difference. This run is personal, it’s about turning grief into purpose.

Why WCRF
Thursday 4th DecEvery day around 1,100 people will hear the words ‘you have cancer’. Over 420 of these cases could have been prevented, that’s a staggering 155,000 people every year. World Cancer Research Fund, are passionate about reducing this number.
As part of an international network of charities, they’ve been funding life-saving research, influencing global health policy and informing the public since 1982.
While society continues to search for a cure, their prevention and survival work helps people to live longer, healthier, and happier lives – free from the devastating effects of cancer. The money I'm raising plays a huge part in keeping this going.
