Why World Cancer Research Fund?
Every day around 1,100 people will hear the words ‘you have cancer’. Over 420 of these cases could have been prevented, that’s a staggering 155,000 people every year. World Cancer Research Fund, are passionate about reducing this number.
As part of an international network of charities, they’ve been funding life-saving research, influencing global health policy and informing the public since 1982.
While society continues to search for a cure, their prevention and survival work helps people to live longer, healthier, and happier lives – free from the devastating effects of cancer. The money I'm raising plays a huge part in keeping this going.

Why I'm running the London Marathon 2027
Wednesday 22nd JulRunning the London Marathon has been a long-term personal goal of mine, but being able to run it in aid of the World Cancer Research Fund makes it even more meaningful.
Breast cancer has affected my family in more ways than one, and seeing the impact it had on my mum and nan inspired me to take on this challenge.
My nan was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer after discovering a lump in her breast. During further investigations, cancer was also found in her kidney. She underwent surgery and years of hormone treatment with incredible strength. Although my nan sadly passed away from unrelated causes, everything she went through had a lasting impact on me and my family.
Just a few years later, in January 2019, my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer following her first routine mammogram. She underwent surgery, followed by radiotherapy, and continues hormone therapy today. Seeing her go through treatment reinforced just how important early detection, research and ongoing support really are.
Running has become a huge part of my life over the past few years, and I’ve completed numerous half marathons. Taking on the London Marathon is my biggest challenge yet and gives me the opportunity to give something back to a cause that means so much to me while raising money for the incredible work the World Cancer Research Fund does in helping to prevent cancer through research, education and awareness.
My goal is to raise £3,000, and I would be incredibly grateful for any support you can give. No matter how big or small your donation, every contribution is truly appreciated and will help support the World Cancer Research Fund’s vital work. Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for being part of this journey with me.
