Why World Cancer Research Fund?
I'm running the London Marathon 2026 in memory of my mum (Sheena) and in support of the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF)
Hi everyone,
So… I’ve signed up to run the London Marathon 2026, and I’ll be doing it in memory of my mum, who we sadly lost in December 2024 after a brave and courageous battle with brain tumours or Glioblastoma (GBM).
Glioblastoma is the most aggressive and most common type of cancer that originates in the brain, and has a very poor prognosis for survival. Initial signs and symptoms of glioblastoma are nonspecific. They may include headaches, personality changes, nausea, and symptoms similar to those of a stroke. Symptoms often worsen rapidly and may progress to unconsciousness.
Why am I doing this?
Losing my mum was devastating. We miss her every single day. Running this marathon is my way of honouring her memory and channelling the grief into something meaningful. If she were here, she’d laugh at me for signing up for yet another mad challenge, roll her eyes, and then proceed to tell everyone within a five mile radius how proud she was! Running a marathon is no small feat, but I’ll be thrilled to join thousands of others to pound the streets of London, probably crying, sweating, and seriously questioning my life choices. I’m proud to be doing it for the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF), an incredible charity that funds research into how diet, lifestyle, and environmental factors can help prevent cancer before it even begins.
How you can help
I’m aiming to raise £3,000 for WCRF, and I’d be so grateful for your support. Whether it's a small donation, a share of this page, or just a kind word when I’m deep in the pain cave at mile 20, it all means the world. Every penny goes towards vital cancer prevention research, giving more families the chance for more time with the people they love. Thank you so much for being part of this journey. Your support truly means everything.
