Why World Cancer Research Fund?

Every day around 1,100 people will hear the words ‘you have cancer’. Over 420 of these cases could have been prevented, that’s a staggering 155,000 people every year. World Cancer Research Fund, are passionate about reducing this number.

As part of an international network of charities, they’ve been funding life-saving research, influencing global health policy and informing the public since 1982.

While society continues to search for a cure, their prevention and survival work helps people to live longer, healthier, and happier lives – free from the devastating effects of cancer. The money I'm raising plays a huge part in keeping this going.

My Updates

My why..

Saturday 11th Jul

Last year, I took on my first London Marathon and, thanks to the incredible generosity of family, friends, colleagues and even strangers, we raised nearly £4,000 for Cancer Research UK.

Crossing that finish line after 42.2 kilometres was one of the proudest moments of my life. Not just because I’d completed the distance, but because every kilometre had a purpose.

A few years ago, I was diagnosed with tongue cancer. Hearing the words “you have cancer” at a young age completely changed my life. Treatment tested me physically and mentally, but it also taught me resilience, gratitude and never to take my health for granted. Today, I’m incredibly grateful to be in remission and able to do things I once thought might not be possible.

Running became a huge part of my recovery. It helped me rebuild my confidence, trust my body again and discover strength I didn’t know I had. Every kilometre I run is a reminder of how lucky I am to be here.

That’s why I’m so proud to be running the 2027 TCS London Marathon for World Cancer Research Fund. Their work funds vital research and provides evidence-based education on how healthy lifestyles can help reduce cancer risk and improve survival. As someone whose life has been touched by cancer, I know how important research is and I want to help create a future where fewer people hear the words, “You have cancer.”

This year, my goal is to raise £2,750, and every donation, no matter the size, will help support that mission.

If you’ve supported me before, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your encouragement got me through those 42.2 kilometres, and I’d be so grateful if you could support me again as I take on this challenge once more.

Together, let’s make every kilometre count. ❤️
