Running to Fight Cancer: Supporting the World Cancer Research Fund

Hi there!

As a radiation oncologist resident, I witness every day the profound impact cancer has on patients and their families. I often receive questions about nutrition and prevention — topics that are so important, yet not always easy to understand or access. This experience has inspired me to take action.

I’m honored to represent the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) and to run the London Marathon 2026 in support of their vital mission. The WCRF is dedicated to advancing scientific research on cancer prevention through healthy lifestyle choices, making life-saving knowledge available to everyone.

Cancer affects not only the body but also the mind and spirit — for patients and their loved ones. By fundraising for WCRF, I hope to contribute to reducing cancer risk through education and research, and ultimately improve the lives of many.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to raise awareness and funds for this cause, and I’d deeply appreciate your support. Every donation helps bring us closer to a future where cancer prevention is better understood and more accessible worldwide.

Thank you for joining me on this journey.

My Updates

Hi everyone! Let’s get started.

Thursday 7th Aug

I’m excited to share my very first update with you all. Today, I received the wonderful news that I have been selected to run the London Marathon 2026 on behalf of the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF)!

As a doctor, I know that lifestyle, income, and living environment all play a huge role in the development of cancer. In fact, over 30% of all cancers can be attributed to unhealthy lifestyle choices or environmental factors. These include smoking, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, alcohol consumption, and exposure to environmental pollutants. Smoking alone is responsible for over 25% of cancer-related deaths in EU+2 countries, making it the most significant risk factor.

Attached is a graph showing the contribution of smoking to cancer cases in the Netherlands, illustrating just how significant this factor is.

I’m truly honored to represent WCRF and to raise awareness about these important risk factors. I look forward to keeping you updated as I prepare for the marathon and work to support cancer prevention through better knowledge and action.
