Why World Cancer Research Fund?

Every day around 1,100 people will hear the words ‘you have cancer’. Over 420 of these cases could have been prevented, that’s a staggering 155,000 people every year. World Cancer Research Fund, are passionate about reducing this number.

As part of an international network of charities, they’ve been funding life-saving research, influencing global health policy and informing the public since 1982.

While society continues to search for a cure, their prevention and survival work helps people to live longer, healthier, and happier lives – free from the devastating effects of cancer. The money I'm raising plays a huge part in keeping this going.

Why I Am Running

Monday 26th Oct

I’m running the London Marathon 2027 for the World Cancer Research Fund, who are doing amazing work to help prevent cancer and save lives.

Over the past couple of years, I’ve become slightly obsessed with running. I’ve become every cliché of the new dad with young kids breezing out of the house on a sunday morning for a 2 hour run! Despite this, plus the additional negative impacts of boring my friends and family with my latest heart rate vs pace-per-kilometre progress charts, aerobic capacity supplement research, or the latest long-run shoe technology, it has overall had a positive effect on my life by improving my fitness, health, energy and mood.

So I have continued to run and have completed 3 half marathons in the last year, steadily improving each time, and I am now working hard towards this new, much bigger goal of running the London Marathon.

My Dad sadly died of cancer when I was a teenager, and now, with a young family of my own, the work that the World Cancer Research Fund does couldn’t feel more important to me.

So, if you’re able to donate, however small, I’d be incredibly grateful. Every donation directly supports research into cancer prevention, which could ultimately help change the outcomes for other families like mine.

Thank you!
