Why World Cancer Research Fund?

In April 2027, Amanda and I will have the incredible opportunity to run the London Marathon together. After Amanda secured a place through the open ballot, I was fortunate to receive a charity place with the World Cancer Research Fund, allowing us to share this experience while raising money for a cause that means so much to our family.

Cancer has touched our family, our friends, and far too many people we know and love. Raising money for research that helps prevent cancer and gives more people the opportunity to live longer, healthier lives adds an even greater purpose to this marathon.

Amanda continues to face her own cancer journey with courage, humility, and a quiet strength that inspires so many. Sharing this experience with her while helping fund research that benefits others will make London deeply meaningful to us.

Every day around 1,100 people will hear the words ‘you have cancer’. Over 420 of these cases could have been prevented, that’s a staggering 155,000 people every year. World Cancer Research Fund, are passionate about reducing this number.

As part of an international network of charities, they’ve been funding life-saving research, influencing global health policy and informing the public since 1982.

While society continues to search for a cure, their prevention and survival work helps people to live longer, healthier, and happier lives – free from the devastating effects of cancer. The money I'm raising plays a huge part in keeping this going.
