Why I Run
Friday 10th Jul
After running Boston, NYC, and Chicago, I could not pass up the chance to lace up for my fourth World Marathon Major — the London Marathon in 2027! This time I'm running for the World Cancer Research Fund, and I'd be so grateful if you'd consider giving what you can, because every dollar goes directly toward the science that helps prevent cancer and save lives.
Why WCRF?
Well, in January of 2021, my Mom, Karen Anastas, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer and given a year to live. The incredible doctors at Dana-Farber gave her a variety of treatments and gave us invaluable time together as a family, but she unfortunately passed away on January 18th, 2024. Throughout her cancer journey, she stayed courageous and strong for everyone around her, especially her kids, defying the odds and surviving 3 years with a terminal disease.
Losing her is the reason I run. Every early morning, every long run in the rain, every mile nobody sees — I carry her through all of it. Running gave the grief somewhere to go, and turning that into something that helps other families is what makes the miles worth it.
That's where WCRF comes in. The World Cancer Research Fund funds the research behind cancer prevention — how the way we eat, move, and live shapes our risk. It's the kind of slow, unglamorous work that means fewer families have to sit in the waiting rooms mine sat in, and fewer people have to say the goodbye we had to say. Your donation goes straight to that work.
Please consider giving what you can in support of this incredible cause. Thanks so much for your generosity — and I'll see you in London! LFG. 🇬🇧
