Why World Cancer Research Fund?

I’m running the London Marathon for World Cancer Research Fund because this is a charity I know inside out. I worked in the Research Funding team for two years and saw first-hand the extraordinary impact of their work - and the truly incredible science that the funds go towards.
While much cancer funding focuses on finding a cure, WCRF funds world-leading research into how cancer can be prevented in the first place, alongside survival research that helps people live longer, healthier and happier lives after a diagnosis.
The statistics are shocking. Every single day, around 1,100 people hear the words “you have cancer”. Over 420 of those cases could have been prevented. That’s roughly 155,000 people every year. Let that sink in.
The reality is that we have all been impacted by cancer in some way, whether personally, through a loved one, or through the quiet ripple effects it has on our lives.
World Cancer Research Fund exists to change this. As part of a global network of charities, they have been funding life-saving research, shaping international health policy and empowering the public with clear, evidence-based guidance since 1982.
While the world continues to search for a cure, WCRF’s prevention and survival work is transforming lives right now. The money I’m raising helps ensure this vital work can continue and that fewer people ever have to hear those devastating words.
If you’re able to donate, even a small amount can make a real difference. Thank you so much for your support 💜

Go on Becky!!
Go for it. When you’re in pain, during training and the run , remember of all those who heard those awful words “it can be cancer” and turn that pain to energy for them to keep fighting , the same way you need to keep fighting during the run 👊👊.
