London Marathon 2026!

Why on earth am I running the London Marathon and why for the World Cancer Research Fund?

Hi, I’m Sam, and on 26th April 2026, I’ll be taking on the challenge of running 26.2 miles through the streets of London, all to raise money for the World Cancer Research Fund. Like so many others, my family has been deeply affected by cancer and I’m running not just in memory of my own loved ones, but for everyone who’s been touched by this awful disease.

My running journey so far (or lack of one!)

In June 2025, I came home from work to my wife announcing “You need to start running.” Naturally, I asked why and she replied, “Because I’ve signed us both up for the York 10K in August!” My first thought was, why on earth would we do that! Neither of us had ever run seriously before but we laced up our trainers and headed out to give running a go. To our surprise, we quickly caught the running bug and one thing led to another and we soon signed up to run the Rome Half Marathon together in October. I always said I would never do a marathon but when an advert to run the London Marathon came up I filled in the application form on a whim and now I’m preparing to take on the biggest challenge of my life!

When I decided to take on the London Marathon, I knew I wanted to do it for a cause that meant something personal. After speaking with the amazing team at the World Cancer Research Fund, I knew this was the charity I wanted to support. Their work in cancer prevention and education is so important and I’m proud to be running for them.

Over the coming months, I’ll be sharing my training journey (and probably some struggles!) on social media - coming soon

If you’re able to support my fundraising, I’d be incredibly grateful. Every donation, big or small, will help me reach my goal of £3,000 and make a real difference in the fight against cancer.

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my page and read my story.
