This Marathon Is for My Mum. This Marathon Is for My Dad.

Running has always been a huge part of my life, and taking part in the London Marathon would be a dream come true. The opportunity to combine that dream with supporting a cause that is so personal to me makes it even more meaningful.

Over the last six years, I have lost both of my parents.

My mum passed away from lung cancer, and her illness changed my perspective on cancer forever. It was no longer something I heard about on the news or read about online. It became part of my family's story. Watching someone you love go through cancer changes you in ways that are hard to describe, and its impact never truly leaves you.

That is why I chose to support the World Cancer Research Fund. In memory of my mum, I want to help fund research, raise awareness, and support efforts that can help prevent cancer and give other families hope for the future.

I am also running for my dad, who passed away in 2025. He was always quietly supportive of my passion for running. He would ask about my training, my races, and how my running was going. Even though we did not always have the closest relationship, I know he genuinely cared and was proud of what running meant to me.

One of the hardest moments of my life came during a Saturday morning training run in 2025, when I received the phone call telling me that my dad had passed away. Since that day, running has carried a different meaning. Every training session, every race, and every mile has been run with his memory by my side.

The London Marathon is much more than a race for me. It is a chance to honour both of my parents, to celebrate the support and love they gave me, and to turn personal loss into something positive that may help others facing cancer today.

Every donation, no matter the size, means the world to me. Thank you for helping me remember my mum and dad, support life-changing cancer research, and make every mile count. ❤️

About Me: Hi, It's Me!

Thursday 23rd Jul

Hi, I'm Szymon, a 41-year-old runner from Kraków, Poland.

Running has been my passion since 2015, and my first race was a charity event, Poland Business Run. Looking back, it's fitting that my running journey started with supporting a good cause and has now led me to fundraising through the London Marathon.

Outside of running, I love travelling, hiking, long-distance cycling, and discovering new music. Since last year, I've also been combining my passion for running and travel by taking part in races around the world.

Professionally, I work in one of the global company in the field of communications, events, and content creation.

For me, the London Marathon is more than a race. It's an opportunity to honour the memory of my parents, support the World Cancer Research Fund, and use my passion for running to make a positive difference in the lives of others.

Thank you for being part of this journey. 🏃‍♂️❤️🌍🚴‍♂️🎵
