Why World Cancer Research Fund?

Every day around 1,100 people will hear the words ‘you have cancer’. Over 420 of these cases could have been prevented, that’s a staggering 155,000 people every year.

Cancer has affected too many of my friends and family, and has taken some from us.

World Cancer Research Fund, are passionate about reducing this number, focussing much of their work on prevention.

As part of an international network of charities, they’ve been funding life-saving research, influencing global health policy and informing the public since 1982.

While society continues to search for a cure, their prevention and survival work helps people to live longer, healthier, and happier lives – free from the devastating effects of cancer. The money I'm raising plays a huge part in keeping this going.

Why I am running the Marathon

Tuesday 25th Aug

I am running the London Marathon to help raise money for the fight against cancer.  Cancer has impacted me through my family and friends who’ve had their lives touched, affected and in some cases taken by it.  My sister has fought and survived cancer more than once, and is living with its affects; my father was taken from us by mesothelioma; a friend lost his fight this summer and every year I hear of another friend or family member impacted by cancer in some way. Many cancers are preventable and whilst I know my own lifestyle, with shiftwork  and past excesses, is not ideal I believe strongly in better understanding to reduce the number of incidences of the disease that could / should have otherwise been prevented.

This London Marathon will be doubly memorable as my son and I are both running it.

Thank you to my Sponsors
