Why World Cancer Research Fund?

Every day around 1,100 people will hear the words ‘you have cancer’. Over 420 of these cases could have been prevented, that’s a staggering 155,000 people every year. World Cancer Research Fund, are passionate about reducing this number.

As part of an international network of charities, they’ve been funding life-saving research, influencing global health policy and informing the public since 1982.

While society continues to search for a cure, their prevention and survival work helps people to live longer, healthier, and happier lives – free from the devastating effects of cancer. The money I'm raising plays a huge part in keeping this going.

Story

Sunday 20th Jul
A week after her 40th birthday, my mum was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of thyroid cancer. The normal prognosis for this type of cancer is around 6 months, but fortunately it was caught incredibly early. 

Thanks to the amazing medical professionals and the pioneering work of charities like world cancer research, mum has benefitted from clinical trials, numerous operations and extensive medical support. 

As a family, we feel incredibly lucky as 3 years on, mum is still able to live life to the full and have more time with us. The cancer journey is a tough one, it knocks you for six when you least expect it to. It takes courage, strength and determination and I am so proud of my mum for the courage she's shown throughout.  The experience is different for everybody, but we are beyond grateful for the army of love and support and medical care that has got mum through. 

For anybody who has been touched by cancer, we wish you all the love and strength in the world.
